Designates current storage layer is due a re-work, several issues have began to show including excessive boilerplate, connection management issues, support for batching changes into a transactional way, etc. We'll use this session to discuss some possible re-work and nail down a plan for Liberty.

Discussion around the implementation of "ALIAS" records (aka root/APEX CNAMEs).
Implementation decisions made for ALIAS records may have an effect on how GeoIP, Weighted Round Robin, "Active Failover", split-horizon etc are implemented down the line, so we'll need to keep these additional use cases in mind.

Kilo introduced "pool manager", making mDNS the primary method of integration with Backend DNS servers. This has had a negative impact on some DNS servers (FreeIPA, InfoBlox etc). Let's use this time to work through the issues, and identify a solid long term plan to reintroduce 1st class support for this style of backend.

Discussion around integration between Designate and Ceilometer, primarily focused around the Metering and Billing use case. Designate has some unique constraints here, as many M&B systems require a periodic "exists" event to handle "delete" event message loss, since Designate could be hosting hundreds of thousands of zones without zones having a dedicated process responsible for a reasonable number of zones, emitting these events in a scalable way will need thorough discussion!
