As cloud becomes ubiquitous, many are turning to automation to orchestrate various tasks such as deployment of infrastructure, platforms, and applications. This can be accomplished with a myriad of tools and various resource plugins. In this talk, automation and orchestration using OpenStack Heat and the popular open source configuration management utility, Puppet will be discussed. The followings will be demonstrated:
- How Heat can be integrated into a solution architecture
- The resource plugin built for integrating Puppet and Heat
- How Puppet can be used to provision application servers and multi-tier enterprise applications
- How to extend this architecture to orchestrate components outside of OpenStack
Extending this architecture to support container technology and DevOps will also be discussed. This talk is intended for application developers or architects looking to learn how to use Heat and Puppet for automation. Knowledge of Heat and Puppet is not required.
