Addressing a Telco's Layer 3 needs with OpenStack Neutron and ODL integrationloud Foundry on OpenStack Hands-on: It’s what on the Stack that matters!

Being able to setup a layer-3 VPN is one of the important capabilities desired by the Telco Operators that is not addressed by OpenStack today. This TechTalk proposes to evolve OpenStack Neutron to set up a layer-3 VPN to provide overlay in data centers by directing an ODL (OpenDayLight) based SDN-C (Software Defined Network Controller). The following topics will be addressed:

·         The evolution of Neutron API to accommodate advanced VPN connectivity.

·         The policy driven networking use cases and options. This will address how the Neutron plugins can be utilized to communicated the enterprise, residential and NFVi policies to an ODL based SDN-C.

·         The required ODL evolution toward complete and high performance Neutron implementation. This will postulate how implementing some of the key Neutron services – e.g., LBaaS, FWaaS, VPNaaS etc. - by a single plugin like ODL will lead to enhanced performance.

Additionally, this talk will present an end-to-end use case for connecting multiple OpenStack regions (i.e., data centers) through MPLS VPN. Enhancements to the Neutron APIs will be proposed for orchestrating inter region and Internet connectivity through the MPLS VPNs. The administration management of MPLS VPNs as well as the mechanism for the tenants to connect to them will also be addressed.
