Moving an AWS Workload to OpenStack

You've decided to make the switch to OpenStack. Great! Now what do you do with all of those apps already running on Amazon Web Services? Fortunately, you can move them.

That's not to say it's simple or straightforward. OpenStack’s functionality doesn't always match that of AWS, and custom kernels on AWS machines make it impossible to simply forklift a workload from one cloud to the other. In this talk, we'll look at some of your options for moving your existing applications and workloads from AWS to OpenStack.

You'll learn about:

  • Planning your migration -- services to consider

  • How to move a Linux workload

  • How to move a Microsoft Windows workload

  • Gotchas to watch out for

  • Baby steps: going the hybrid cloud route instead

After attending this session, you'll have a better idea of the concrete steps you need to take to move your workloads from AWS to an OpenStack cloud.
